I hat to do it

Last year I found an interesting ball of yarn with lots of pretty color changes I had to buy.  Wasn't sure what for.  At Christmas I figured I'd nalbind a hat in Dalarna stitch, a new stitch for me.  It had a more open weave, not too hot and good for a dad who's been cold in the house.  Started working on it riding in the car one day, but had a skein that needed to become a ball.  No good place in a car to do that and only my hands to use so I had to use the gear shift lever (fortunately, an automatic car so not overly intrusive to the awesome husband driver).  Worked pretty well.  Use what you have!  The result was a nice fade from one color to another.

We’ve been pretty good about reminding each other to go out for walks—nice for fresh air, to get away from work/computers and to spend some time talking.   It’s been good to stretch legs and watch spring arrive—tulips, forsythia, emerald grass, leaves, cherry, plum, lilac, dogwood and of course, all the yard cleanup and dead branches.   On one of those walks I picked up a few dried out sticks that caught my eye, thinking “surely medieval people would be able to pick up a stick and make a nalbinding needle at need,” pocketed them, and kept going.   Found them in the pocket a few days later and put them on the countertop.   Came across them a few days later . “Mmmn, was going to do a thing.”   The sticks eyed me from the countertop where I’d deposited them, asking why I’d picked them up if I wasn’t going to go through with this.   I’m not a woodworker so didn’t really know where to start, but finally steeled myself to attempt it, saw a video someone made and decided I just needed to tr

Learning to read...part 2

Finishing up the 2nd of the pair Finished & so pretty! I worked on these socks for a very long time, getting frustrated at problem areas and putting them down, then steeling myself to work through them (with lots of help and encouragement), only to come to another halt.   I even started several other socks, encouraged by being able to start and get to a certain point without much difficulty.   I was super excited about finishing the first sock and determined to complete the second so I could wear them, and after much starting and stopping finally did complete the second.   Woot!   I was so excited, so happy, my second pair of socks finally completed, a pair for me !   And what a feeling of sweet success.   A goofy smile and good feelings burbled up.   Then I tried on the second sock only to find it wouldn’t fit--I couldn’t get my foot through a tight section on the turn of the sock, even though I had tried it on repeatedly while working on it.   I was stunned.
